The Future - Gummy Worms

Description

The Future has been a beloved staple on our year-round menu for quite awhile now. With it, we have been able to showcase excellence in processing techniques, particularly in regard to anaerobic and co-fermentation endeavors.. Our goal with each of these unique blends is to elevate flavor as the guiding principle for each creation.

HOW WE GOT HERE | We live in a world where division - it seems - is everywhere. From politics to football teams, there is no shortage of opportunities to "take a side."  Typically, we can find some solace in a good cup of coffee - a uniting front over which we can have a conversation about our differences.

However, this cup of coffee actually highlights one of the great divisions of our time, a heated debate which always takes center stage this time of year. Before you cast your ballots on November 5, you'll be asked to make a very different (but equally divisive) decision on October 31: on which side of the Halloween candy aisle do you fall?

As a lifelong apologist of the seasonal Reese's Peanut Butter Pumpkins, the writer of this blurb does not quite understand our roasters' collective affinity for gummy candy in all of its forms, but a quick glance at our menu confirms that their allegiance to it is undeniable. For this Future release, our team sought to pay tribute to some of their favorite gummy candies in caffeinated form, like: Haribo Watermelon, Nerds Rope, Peach Rings, and Trolli Night Crawlers.

HOW WE DID IT | To re-create all of those fruity, nostalgic flavors, we blended one washed Ethiopian coffee with three fruit co-fermented lots:

  • 40% Danche - Washed (Gedeb, Gedeo, Ethiopia)
  • 22% Sebastian Ramirez - Red Fruits (Quindio, Colombia)
  • 20% Sebastian Ramirez - Watermelon (Quindio, Colombia)
  • 18% Jairo Arcila - Mandarin (Armenia, Quindio, Colombia)

While the washed lot from Danche contributes that vibrant acidity we associate with all of the candies mentioned above, the three co-fermented coffees give us fruit flavor in spades.

TAKE A SIP | Delightfully fruity, acidic, and sweet, sipping this coffee reminds us of tearing into a bag of gas station gummy worms while on a road trip. It's intensely candy-like, with any number of fruit gummy candies coming to mind. Watermelon gummy bears and peach rings stand out to us, but we are confident you'll be reminded of your own favorite gummy candy when you try it for the first time, whatever it is.
